Blue Catfish

Blue Catfish were introduced to the Bay back in the 1970’s. Even though they tend to like freshwater, they can adapt anywhere. They eat practically anything, from plant life and worms, to mussels, Blue Crabs, and more. According to the Chesapeake Bay Program, the eating habits of the Blue Catfish can cause an issue for the ecosystem of the Bay.  Blue Catfish are considered an invasive species, so, according to scientists, the more you eat, the better it is for our local ecosystem and economy.

Even though catfish can have reputation due to being a “bottom feeder,” Blue Catfish have a surprisingly clean flavor. And better yet, for a lower price than a lot of other fish, you can order some frozen Blue Catfish filets, and enjoy that flaky, white meat and moist, sweet taste.  Soak in milk and then rinse it off, to bring out a milder taste. And, make sure to try out these recipes when you buy frozen Blue Catfish filets from us! Blue Catfish filets are an excellent source of protein and are rich in Omega-3 fatty acids.
